GLASS MARCANO
CONDUCTOR.

At Kaporal, we have a saying: "never insignificant, always flamboyant". We showcase individuals who step outside the box, and own their difference. "Outside the box" is our new meeting place, in the form of portraits of the people who inspire us. These individuals are from different worlds: sport, fashion, art, volunteer groups... and they are shifting the rules within their respective fields. We love it. Working in partnership with Kourtrajmé Marseille, the film school that trains new talents, we present to you the first gallery of portraits.

In this first episode, you get to meet the brilliant Glass Marcano, a 25-year-old Venezuelan conductor who is on an incredible journey, interspersed with pitfalls, and whose desire and zest for life set an example that we should all try to emulate.

There are some individuals who know how to shape their own destiny. Although combining her studies, a small job, and evening classes in Venezuela, whatever the cost, Glass Marcano wanted to compete in the famous La Maestra competition, a competition reserved exclusively for female conductors. She faced an incalculable number of trials along the way, beginning with the 150-euro registration fee (the average salary in Venezuela is 2.5 dollars, and Glass Marcano did not have the necessary means at her disposal). However, thanks to her determination, the young conductor overcame every obstacle, and ended up taking part in the contest in Paris - and she did so in style. While she may not have won the competition, she did land the Prix de l’Orchestre, awarded by the Paris Mozart Orchestra, and was accepted into the Regional Conservatory of Paris. Since then, her career has exploded, and the journey she has taken seems like a fairytale. Glass Marcano is also the first black woman to conduct an orchestra in Europe.
